Robert Chandler Comments on N4467CThe photo was taken at Sonoma, CA Schelville Airport a few years back. You can see the grape vines in the background.I've owned the plane since November 1987. Found it at the 195 fly-in in Oklahoma that year. My wife, Wendi, and I honeymooned in the plane in August/Sept 1989. We circumnavigated the country flying the "Bed & Breakfast trail". Knowing we wanted to end up in Bar Harbor eventually, and that we wanted to fish in Montana and visit a friend in Minneapolis, the rest of the trip was planned as we went using B&B guides and sectionals. Wherever an interesting Inn and an airstrip fell in about the same place, that's where we went. Stops included Palo Alto; Sunriver, OR; Fort Smith, MT (for fly-fishing on the Big Horn River); Madelyn Island in Lake Superior; Ottowa, ON; Bar Harbor, ME (zero-zero takeoff leaving); Beaumont, KY (for the ham at the Beaumont Inn); Cimarron, KS (landed at midnight and the owner of the duster operation came out to meet us 'cause he heard that sweet radial sound. Stayed at a place there that looked like the Long Branch Saloon in Gunsmoke); Telluride, CO; Grand Cny for lunch; home to SMO. Spen about three weeks doing this. Taught Wendi to fly on instruments and she became my "autopilot". Needless to say, this was a great adventure for a honeymoon (it was my wife's idea I must hasten to say). And the 195 was about as perfect a mount as could have been found for such an outing. Here are the specs on the plane, which is hangared at SMO along with our 1944 Howard DGA 15P, ex-Navy:
