Beau Bradley's Response to West Yellowstone Routing Requests

There have been a couple of discussion threads addressing potential routes to West Yellowstone.  I asked Beau if he could make a suggestion based on his familiarity with the area.

Here's his response and an invitation to discuss alternatives:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A route suggestion to those who want to limit their mountain flying.

From the east go KBIL, KLVS, KBZN, 9S5 and then turn south down the Madison Valley .  Approximately 30NM south of KEKS cross over Raynolds Pass (6836’) to U53 then east to KWYS.

Anyone can contact me on my cell if they want to pick my brain about any other routes.  My cell is 406-596-3100.

Beau

THE WAY TO WEST YELLOWSTONE (part 2)

At the moment we plan to spend the night in Cheyenne. Next day  it will be V118 to LAR, V 85 to MBW, V 6 to OCS, V328 to JAC, V520 to Driggs-Reed (KDIJ) then direct to WYS. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we can fly the valleys .

Any other suggestions are welcome.

Thank,

Yellowstone departures from the west coast

Anybody heading to W.Y. fly-in from the west coast on Thursday 16? Planning on leaving Oakland early on Thursday in hopes of being at the fly-in lunch at 1:30. Always fun to fly with another 195.

THE WAY TO WEST YELLOWSTONE

We will be flying to WYS  from the deep south and would appreciate some advice on which way to travel from the Denver area. I'd like to keep below 10,000 ft. if possible, so any input is welcome.

Thanks.

Membership Map Now Available

Late last year Kevin McAtee suggested we add an interactive map to the website that shows the geographic locations of members.  So when planning cross country flights, for example, members can click on a dot and be provided  contact information for that member.

Well, it's finally available at the link below.  Links are also on the Members Menu under "Map"  and  on the Member Listing Page as a link on city, state/country.

Let me know any questions or suggestions.  And keep those suggestions coming...

Applegate Fly-in

For those in the MO, IA, NE, IL, KS area, and have no place to fly their 195's tomorrow (Sunday, 8 August), there is a little fly-in at Harve and Carolyn Applegate's airport at Queen City, MO (just a little north of Kirksville), identifier 15MO, starts at 2p, food will be served just bring a lawn chair. I bought my plane from Harve and he took my money and bought that beautiful Waco cabin bi-plane we all walk by as we walk north at OSH (near the Hangar Cafe).  They are great people. Harve is very active in AAA and there will be lots of planes up there lining his very nice grass strip, which is just west of the highway that runs south out of Queen City. .

I am going to burn up some of that cheap Hannibal fuel and fly up there with a few friends.

Important - West Yellowstone Date is Near - Action Needed!

Hello Again Everyone,

Time is flying by and we are only a little over a month away from the West Yellowstone Fly-In, September 15th – 19th.  The Holiday Inn (www.DoYellowstone.com)  406 646-7365, has informed me that everything outside of our block is sold out and our blocked rooms are due to be released August 17th.  September is still considered Yellowstone’s tourist season so please make your reservations as soon as you can, we don’t want to see anyone left out. If you have any problems ask to speak to Shellie and she will get you taken care of; it sounds like there are mostly double queen rooms and King spa rooms left.

Don’t forget, Ron has added a very user friendly online registration process (www.cessna195.org/events/Flyin2010/) that makes it quick and easy.  Just don’t forget you have to make your room reservations separately.

Or, you can still print and complete the paper registration form at the same link and send it to us with your $150.00 per person registration fee by August 15th (the earlier the better).

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact Beau or Deb.

We are really excited to have you all visit “Big Sky Country”!

West Yellowstone Flyin

Just a head's up.  Booked our room today at the Holiday Inn West Yellowstone and the block of rooms are being held under the "Cessna Club".  Some confusion at first until we figured it out.

See you there!

Oshkosh Update

Tuesday Morning------We have 17 airplanes in our club area and we are packed in like sardines and thanks to Tall Tom Taylor working with us on some creative parking, including "burying" Coyles airplane BETWEEN two rows. John Barron has been running around here like a chicken with his head cut off.

As of 9:30a, Tuesday, there are now 4 spaces available in our area and Tall Tom said they can only hold them for so long before some SOB (some other brand) comes in and wants them. I believe everyone that has been phoning me about conditions has arrived. Airplanes are coming and going. Things are getting there.

News from Lake SLOshkosh

Just kidding, it is merely damp. Seriously, tomorrow, Monday, the airport will most likely not be open for arrivals until 10a and then only for "showplane" category of which we are a defined part. as "vintage" aircraft. Also, they will probably close the airport to new arrivals after 1p. Of course, this could all change, but it is news that is current Sunday evening.

Those of us that are here, are camped in our usual neighborhood, low row 80's, but our planes are lined up facing the north south taxiway.

There is some indication that type club aircraft will begin to be repositioned to the usual spots sometime in the morning, which is good news.

Because of the wet grounds, I recommend bug spray as the skeeters are pretty active.

Coyle, are we "good" for the type club table? Let me know what  I can do.

I am getting un-official reports that Oshkosh is 50% covered with standing water, their phone briefing number is from yesterday, and I have been told, that they have restricted parking to concrete only,  I cannot verify this so far, there are no notams, the WX is poor, with rain a strong possibility thru sat afternoon, sunday looks to be clear .  If anyone has good data, please post it,   John Barron

Today is Friday, the 16th, and I have 37 planes coming to Oshkosh, in 3 more days I have to turn in a final count by N#, last year, we had 37 initially, but then a few more showed, and a few needed to be tail in to places where no one was camping,  The EAA allows us to do this, and only us, because we are so good looking, and maybe because we do it by hand, and are always very cautious,  Thanks for all your help on this, this year should be a good one!  The DC3s are now to be parked further up the line, and will be towed in, so we are back to normal, camping in all the rows!  just a few days away, see you there,  John Barron  573 565 2819

Guys,  Regarding Oshkosh,  the DC3s have been moved further north, and will be parked east to west, with the use of tugs, so we are back to the same as last year, same rows,  this is good!   ,  John Barron

Oshkosh Roll Call

Who's going to Oshkosh this year??

We're planning to get there Saturday or Sunday and stay for a few days, camping under the wing. It'll be the first time there with 5PL, so should be a blast!
