Tie down your plane 100 yards from your room and enjoy a large serving of Texas hospitality! Early registration is open now until August 1, 2008. Sign up during early registration and each person will receive a free T-shirt with the fly-in logo. We have blocked the entire Hangar Hotel for the Cessna 195 Convention and Fly-In! Fifty luxurious rooms, each with a king-size bed, are waiting for your reservation. Call the Hangar Hotel and be sure to tell them you’re with the Cessna 195 Club for the discounted $119.00 rate. The room block will be held until September 9, 2008. First come, first served with overflow at your choice of any of the many other hotel or quaint bed and breakfast accommodations in the Fredericksburg area. Fredericksburg is 70 miles west of Austin and 70 miles northwest of San Antonio. Either city has excellent airline service for those flying commercially. No matter which one you choose, the stress of the city quickly melts away as you drive toward the hill country. A car rental is recommended to get the maximum enjoyment from your visit. There are two car rentals agencies in Fredericksburg, The Motor Pool at the Fredericksburg Airport (T82), and Enterprise. There will be vans available to the group for those wishing to share driving and riding with other club members. Those arriving by motor-home or planning to camp will find the Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park the closest and most scenic place in town. It’s directly across from the airport but there is no access across the runway. Early-Bird arrivals on Tuesday evening will gather for a Burgers-n-Brats cook-out at Richard Pulley and Ina Vleeshouwer’s home out under the stars in the back yard. Wednesday will be the first official arrival day with registration beginning at noon through 6:00pm in Quonset Hut B in the Hangar Hotel Conference Center. Relax after your flight with your favorite beverage and help grade arrival landings from the Hangar Hotel balcony, walk the flight line, or take a stroll through downtown Fredericksburg. Dinner Wednesday evening is a no-host event at the Rathskellar Restaurant serving excellent German and American dishes.
![]() Thursday will be an action-packed day. We will have a fly-out lunch at Russ Luig’s Flying L Ranch outside of Bandera, “The Cowboy Capitol of Texas”, serving Texas-style Bar-B-Q brisket and chicken with all the trimmings followed by a tour of the Mooney Aircraft factory at the Kerrville, Texas Airport (KERV).
![]() Thursday evening’s come-when-you’re-ready no-host dinner will be at the Cotton Gin Restaurant just across Highway 16 from the Fredericksburg Airport (T82). The Cotton Gin serves wonderful Texas Hill Country cuisine in a pleasant rustic atmosphere. Either drive or make the short 10 minute walk to the Cotton Gin. By arriving in smaller groups the Cotton Gin has agreed to let us order off the menu so each person can choose their own meal instead of a fixed menu. The Hangar Hotel Officer’s Club will be open all evening after dinner for drinks and relaxing conversation. Friday will be a day of choices for everyone, whether hangar flying at the airport, taking a relaxing drive through the scenic Texas Hill Country, touring local wineries, or strolling through downtown Fredericksburg visiting the many unique shops, galleries, cafes, and other attractions. There are no franchises in the central downtown area so each business has a flavor all its own. Friday is a day to slow down and enjoy the area.
![]() The Museum of the Pacific War and the Admiral Nimitz Museum are co-located near the center of town and should be on everyone’s to-do list. Allow at least three hours to see the museums.
![]() Friday evening should be a fun evening come rain or shine. We will have an early catered fajita dinner at 5:30pm at the world famous Luckenbach, Texas Dancehall in downtown Luckenbach where “Everybody is Somebody”. After dinner, “The Almost Patsy Cline Band” will perform their version of classic country and western music. Your choice of dancing, hanging out under the stars and live oak trees, or browsing through the old General Store and Post Office. Gather later at the Officer’s Club for a nightcap. Saturday Morning will be the Maintenance Forum at the Snowden Aviation hangar at the north end of the Fredericksburg Airport. Topics TBD. Following the Forum, we’ll have a no-host fly-out lunch to world famous Cooper’s Bar-B-Q at Llano, Texas (KAQO). (Be careful, it’s waaaay too easy to over-order.) Wait until Llano to fill your tanks as they have some of the least expensive avgas in the area. Ladies not interested in the Maintenance Forum and fly-out are invited to join Ina for a “Ladies-Only Day in Fredericksburg” with no-host lunch, relaxing conversation, and browsing in beautiful downtown Fredericksburg.
![]() Saturday evening gather at the Officer’s Club between 6:00 and 7:00pm for before-dinner cocktails. Our Banquet Dinner starts at 7:00pm at the Hangar Hotel Conference Center. A full service no-host bar will be open during the banquet. Sunday morning is the Annual Meeting and catered breakfast at the Hangar Hotel Conference Center. After breakfast we’ll say goodbye to those heading home and the “stragglers” will get ready for our next adventure. Anyone who will be staying another day is invited to join the other “stragglers” hiking up Enchanted Rock. We’ll drive about 18 miles north of Fredericksburg for another uniquely Texas experience. Enchanted Rock is a huge, pink granite exfoliation dome, rising 425 feet above ground, and covers 640 acres. It is one of the largest batholiths (underground rock formation uncovered by erosion) in the United States. It is an easy hike to the top and anyone who has survived Main Street in Fredericksburg should enjoy it. The view of the surrounding hill country from the top is awesome.
![]() The climb up Enchanted Rock is bound to work up an appetite! So after coming back to town to freshen up, we’ll take a nice sunset drive 12 miles out of town to Hill Top Café Sunday evening. We’ll enjoy excellent Hill Country Cuisine in a rustic old filling station converted into a top notch restaurant. It will be a relaxing end to another enjoyable Cessna 195 Fly-In.
So make your plans early, check the LINKS below for more information, postmark your registration before August 1st to get the free T-shirts, and we’ll see you in Fredericksburg in October.
