10th Annual Fly-In Wichita, Kansas October 4-7, 1979 Organized by Maureen and Ron Huckins Photos contributed by Dennis Vigil Seventy-three Cessna 195s gathered in Wichita, Kansas for the fly-in hosted by Maureen McMaster Huckins and her husband Ron. We stayed at the airport Hilton and had a fly-out to Beaumont Kansas. The list of attendees for this event can be found in the Fall 1979 Bulletin. Also to be found in that issue is a story about the Jacobs Engine patches that Wayne Hayes sent to the fly-in via Jack Oonk. I purchased one of these at this fly-in and will make them once again available at the 2004 fly-in in Midland Texas. Club member Dennis Vigil, who accompanied me to this gathering and who is now the proud owner of a Cessna 195, provided the pictures posted in this club event section. The story behind the picture of my 195, N60W, extensively dismantled on the ramp at Albuquerque NM is in the Spring 1980 Bulletin (Changed out the Mag, Bat Distributor and the ignition harness). We had a dual ignition failure over ABQ on the way home from this fly-in. The only people who were super excited about this were the tower staff that was kind enough to clear the airport for our arrival but were quite impatient with the time it took us to descend from 10,500 ft to our landing.
The Beaumont fly-out was quite unique as the airport picture shows. We landed en mass on this rolling grass strip then taxied down the street to park in front of the restaurant. The whole town turned out to witness this happening. The Cessna factory tour was very informative but the highlight of this was Mort Brown, the Cessna195 factory test pilot, giving to each of us the record of the acceptance test flight for our individual aircraft.
